I have read this book something like 5 or 6 times. I find it absolutely fascinating as well as quite sad.
This is a true story about a teenage boy that tried to build a nuclear reactor in his backyard and got far enough that the EPA had to come in and dismantle the potting shed he worked in and it was sent to a nuclear waste dump.
I find it amazing the story how this kid put together all the things that he needed and was focused on that topic enough to learn some pretty advanced stuff.
I find this story sad because there are so many spots along the way where his parents, teacher and other adults in his life missed opportunities to connect with him and help focus him.
As a teacher, it makes me wonder how many opportunities I have missed.
