All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque

Another book in the "books of my youth" series.

I read this book in school - 9th grade. This book made quite an impression on me. I think it was probably the first time I had learned very much about WWI. In social studies classes, when we learned history it was pretty much colonization through the civil war, I dont' think I learned much about what had happened in the 20th century until my APUSH class in 11th grade.

I also found this book interesting because it was written from the point of view of a German soldier. So many times in learning about wars it seems that it is always the good guys/bad guys and the real people get forgotten.

I do not for a minute think that modern war is better, but trench warfare seems abominable.
