Ilario: The Lion's Eye - Mary Gentle

I have heard this author's name before, but looking at her books, I am not sure if I have heard of any of them.

This book was a good twist and it was well written. The true love interest was woven into the story to as a reader you knew how it was going to end up but you understood why the main character took so long to get there. The trials and tribulations of the main character were similar to many fantasy stories but with such an interesting twist that it was a fresh story

I might now have to find out what else she has written.
